I still feel guilty about the friend I stopped calling after pretending I was fine

I stopped calling a friend when my life got stressful, and by the time I had energy again, the distance felt too awkward to repair. I keep replaying it because the small detail I ignored at the time now feels like the whole point. I am posting it here because anonymous honesty feels easier than another performance.
